Colorado Fiscal Policy Institute announces staff change
The Colorado Fiscal Policy Institute (COFPI) today announces a realignment of its leadership staff including the appointment of Carol Hedges as director.
Hedges takes over for Kathy White, who will remain as deputy project director. Hedges has been a senior fiscal policy analyst for the agency since 2005. She was also a consultant for the organization from 1999 to 2001.
COFPI is a project of the Colorado Center on Law and Policy, a nonpartisan research and advocacy organization seeking justice and economic security for all Coloradans.
"Under Kathy's leadership, the organization has grown from a two-person operation to a vital team of six dedicated professionals working full time on behalf of economic security for all Coloradans," Hedges said. "Our staff reorganization offers us the best opportunity to maximize our staff strengths and continue our organizational commitment to true work-life balance.
"COFPI will strive to retain our place as a go-to organization for research and analysis on state tax and budget issues. But we will not be content to let our research sit on the shelf; we will continue to find new ways to reach out to the fiscal policy decision makers in Colorado, the voters, to help them make well-informed decisions. Our strength comes from our partnerships with organizations and individuals across the state. The COFPI team is poised to build on our successful relationships in order to accomplish the mission of economic justice for all Coloradans through equitable, adequate, transparent and sustainable tax and fiscal policy."
White has played a number of roles at COFPI and the Colorado Center on Law and Policy (CCLP) since 1999, and a leadership role at COFPI since 2002. She'll continue to coordinate special projects within COFPI and provide organizational and administrative support to Hedges and CCLP.
"The reorganization plays to our individual strengths, will allow the agency to continue to be a leading source for innovative solutions to Colorado's fiscal challenges and, most importantly, allow me to devote more time to my young and growing family," White said. "The difficult economic times have shown the value of COFPI's work within Colorado and the importance of having an organization that can provide dynamic, visionary leadership on fiscal issues. Carol has long brought that passion and creativity to our team and will be the perfect person to lead our future efforts on comprehensive fiscal reform."
